Education for Change
At the Dialogue Center for Resilience and Empowerment (DCRE), we believe education is a fundamental right and a powerful pathway to dignity, resilience, and lasting social change.
Our education program seeks to expand inclusive, accessible, and quality learning opportunities for girls, women, children, and young people facing barriers arising from poverty, displacement, conflict, discrimination, and restrictions on education.
Through flexible digital learning, community-based tutoring, mentorship, educator development, and educational support initiatives, DCRE aims to strengthen knowledge, practical skills, confidence, and pathways to further education and opportunity.
We place particular emphasis on safeguarding vulnerable learners, addressing educational exclusion, and developing learning approaches responsive to local needs, available resources, and challenging environments.
Sisters' Talks
Expanding Educational Opportunities for Afghan Girls and Women
Sisters' Talks is a virtual education initiative developed by DCRE in collaboration with the United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia (UNAGP). It aims to provide accessible learning opportunities for Afghan girls and women whose education has been restricted or interrupted.
Target Participants
Secondary-school-age girls, university students whose education has been interrupted, female graduates, and women seeking to strengthen their academic and professional skills.
Priority Subjects
English Language Learning and computer science and digital skills.
Learning Model
A flexible, asynchronous-first approach using mobile-accessible, low-bandwidth Google Classroom materials, complemented by planned virtual instruction, tutoring, mentoring, and practical assignments. The model accommodates unreliable connectivity, electricity outages, limited devices, and participant safety and privacy.
Expected Contribution
Strengthening educational continuity, English proficiency, digital capabilities, confidence, and readiness for higher education and employment.
Current Status: Pilot preparation, including curriculum development, instructor recruitment, learner readiness assessments, and digital learning arrangements.
Learning on the Move
Community-Based Mobile Tutoring for Educational Inclusion
Learning on the Move is a community-driven education strategy DCRE is developing, with Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, as an initial field case study. Led by local volunteers, it aims to explore how flexible, mobile tutoring can help children who are out of school or have dropped out reconnect with learning and formal education.
Target Participants
Out-of-school and dropout children, particularly children engaged in street labor, children from low-income families, and those affected by displacement, migration, or refugee return.
Priority Areas
Foundational literacy and numeracy, learning recovery, school re-entry, and educational continuity, with particular attention to primary and lower-secondary education.
Learning Model
A bottom-up, volunteer-led approach informed by community consultations and field-based evidence. The proposed strategy will examine how mobile tutoring, flexible learning arrangements, and community participation can address barriers to education and support children's return to school.
Expected Contribution
Generating practical evidence on community-based approaches to reducing educational exclusion, addressing school dropout, strengthening learning continuity, and informing potentially replicable models of educational support.
Current Status: Developing the strategy, engaging volunteers, and planning the initial field study.
Knowledge Without Borders: DCRE Digital Library
Expanding Educational Access for School and University Students
Knowledge Without Borders is a proposed DCRE digital education initiative that expands access to textbooks, academic materials, and learning resources for school and university students, particularly Afghan girls and young women facing restrictions on education, mobility, and access to physical libraries. The initiative aims to support educational continuity, independent learning, and equal access to knowledge through a secure, accessible online platform.
Target Participants
Primary and secondary school students and university students, particularly those whose education has been interrupted or whose access to educational resources is limited by restrictions, poverty, or displacement.
Priority Areas
School textbooks, university course materials, reference books, language learning, science, mathematics, computer studies, and other curriculum-relevant educational resources appropriate to students' ages and academic levels.
Learning Model
A two-way digital platform featuring a book contribution portal for submitting educational materials and a student portal for searching, reading, and downloading approved resources. Materials will be organized by educational level, subject, language, and age category, prioritizing mobile-friendly and low-bandwidth access.
All submitted materials will undergo clearly defined selection and approval procedures to ensure educational relevance, quality, age appropriateness, copyright compliance, and alignment with DCRE's mission and safeguarding standards.
Expected Contribution
Improve access to educational resources, support independent study and learning continuity, reduce educational inequalities, and help school and university students maintain and strengthen their knowledge despite barriers to formal education.
Current Status: Concept development, including platform planning, selection of educational resources, safeguarding standards, and feasibility assessment.
Empowering Educators for Change
Strengthening Teaching Capacity for Inclusive and Resilient Education
Empowering Educators for Change is a proposed DCRE initiative to strengthen the professional capacity of educators working in underserved, displaced, and crisis-affected communities. It promotes inclusive, adaptable, learner-centered teaching approaches that improve educational quality and support learning continuity.
Target Participants
Teachers, volunteer educators, community-based tutors, and education facilitators working with vulnerable and marginalized learners.
Priority Areas
Teacher professional development, inclusive pedagogy, learner-centered instruction, psychosocially supportive teaching practices, digital teaching skills, and education in crisis-affected settings.
Learning Model
A flexible capacity-building approach combining virtual workshops, peer learning, mentoring, practical teaching resources, and community-based professional support. The proposed model will explore low-bandwidth, locally adaptable methods to support educators facing limited resources and connectivity challenges.
Expected Contribution
Strengthening educators' teaching competencies, confidence, adaptability, and capacity to create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments, while informing sustainable approaches to professional development in underserved communities.
Current Status: Concept development and exploration of potential partnerships and implementation approaches.
Support Access to Education
Help DCRE expand educational opportunities for girls, women, and underserved students through inclusive learning, community-based initiatives, and access to educational resources.
